Synopsis

——————–

Director Mirko Pincelli chose this story after being deeply moved by his visits to Bosnia on a photojournalism assignment. He spent over a year in Bosnia gaining unprecedented support, access and trust from local people, including over 100 characters who revealed stories never told before. One woman due to feature in Uspomene 677, the sole survivor of a massacre of 6000 people, will only talk to Mirko about her ordeal.

The documentary will focus primarily on the stories of Satko, Elda, Vinko, Saha and Goran, their families and their friends. We will see how they and their families escaped the brutality of war to try and build a life in contemporary Bosnia.

Their land is torn between past and present: between Mittal Steel mines built on locations of concentration camps and clashes between football hooligans that are more about politics than football. Satko, Vinko and Goran don’t want to forget what happened to their families but, at the same time, don’t want to remember either. They are the new generation, trying to carve out a fragile normal life in the rubble of war. They feel the need to make sense of what happened in the past to be able to build a better future.

The documentary will be shot on location in Bosnia and around Europe, followed by several months of post-production with an experienced and award-winning team led by Executive Producer Julian Phelan.
